Quadrupole Alignment Mechanics to adjust the acoustic center

The Quadrupole takes advantage of a pair of dipoles to concentrate sound energy toward the listener.

Where a conventional speaker 90% of the energy is reflected before it reaches the listeners ears, the quadrupole uses a pair of dipoles for each channel which direct a much greater percentage of the sound energy toward the listener increasing resolution, detail, and clarity.

The direct energy is approximately 5 to 10dB greater than the reflected energy (depending on the room) when comparing the Quadruole to a conventional direct radiator loudspeaker.

Each pair of dipoles should be mechanically time aligned where the four individual panels are the same exact distance from the listeners ears for each channel. In Eminent Technology’s Quadrupole, each dipole panel is individually adjustable so that both the angle and distance can be precisely aligned.

As an example, the wavelength at 20Khz is 1.7cm, to be within 10 degrees of phase accuracy, the relative distance of each panel to the listeners ears alignment needs to be within .047mm or about .00185 inches.

For a conventional speaker, phase accuracy just looks like noise at the listening position, where the Quadrupole can present correct time aligned information to the listener through the full frequency range which represents a radical departure from conventional loudspeaker design.

The mechanical system adjustment of each dipole panel is accurate to less than .001 inches and .1 degrees of angle adjustment. No other speaker in the world has the capability.
